Nosemosis, a disease caused by fungal spores, is a diarrheal disease that affects adult bees and can quickly spread to the entire colony. As with nosematosis , this disease causes the affected bees to be unable to fly and ends with the animals starving to death. The disease can be treated with medication.

Chronic paralysis is a viral disease that also causes diarrhea and is transmitted to adult bees and the bee brood primarily by the varroa mite. The affected bees usually die within eight days. However, strong races can cure the disease themselves.
